What is Rotary

Rotary is an organization of business and professional men and women, united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will and peace in the world.

Each Rotary Club meets weekly so members may enjoy each other's fellowship and discuss the club's service goals. Our club meets every Friday noon at the Maples Super Club.

Each Rotary club is grouped with other clubs into a region known as a Rotary District. There are 491 districts in the Rotary world. Peru Club is one of 57 clubs in District 6420. There are over 2900 Rotarians in District 6420.

Worldwide Rotary clubs are located in 172 countries an geographical regions. There are now more than 25,300 clubs and 1,120,000 members in Rotary worldwide.

Rotary International is the association of all Rotary clubs. Its headquarters are in Evanston, Illinois.

The free world is divided into territories within which a group of clubs are associated - there territories are known as Rotary Districts.
There are 491 districts in the Rotary world - in 172 countries and geographic territories.

Our Club is in District 6240 - which is composed of 57 clubs - with a total membership of over 2900 Rotarians.

Rotary International is governed by a president and board of directors elected from all over the world. Annually each District elects a District Governor - but each club is an autonomous group.

The first Rotary club was organized in Chicago in 1905, by Paul P. Harris. This club met in rotation at the offices of the members - thus the name Rotary. There are now more than 25,300 Rotary Clubs with a total Rotary membership of more than 1,120,000 professional men and women.

The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster.
