The mayors of Peru, LaSalle, and Ottawa honored IVCH pharmacist Jennifer Sines Friday (June 4) for starting the P2D2 prescription drug collection program in LaSalle County. The mayors surprised Sines by giving her a plaque at Friday’s meeting of the Peru Rotary Club, where she was the guest speaker. Sines said more than 1,000 pounds of outdated prescription medications had been collected at 11 drop-off points in the county since the program started a year ago. The police chiefs of Peru and LaSalle along with representatives from the Ottawa and Mendota police departments and the Illinois State Police were also on hand to congratulate Sines for her work. Sines said collecting old prescription drugs for safe incineration was better for the environment than flushing them down the toilet.
